Immigrate To Canada Permanently Under The Economic Immigration Program

Canada has been trending over time largely because of its Permanent Residence Program afforded to immigrants from all over the world. Canada annually opens its gate to over 250,000 immigrants with different Permanent Residence Programs.

If you don’t know, Canada is a country in the North American continent, sharing border with the United States. It is the world’s second largest country by land area. Canada offers many programs which allows a person to apply for permanent residence and they are in four basic categories:

For the purpose of this article, we will be discussing the Economic Immigration Program.

Economic Immigration Program

This is a program for people with relevant work experience and/or education to resettle in Canada and contribute to the Canadian Economy. This category can be sub-divided into: Express Entry, Quebec Immigration, Provincial Nominee Program and Atlantic Immigration Pilot. Since we have discussed the Express Entry in the previous article, we will be excluding it from our discussion today.

  • Quebec Immigration: Quebec is a province in Canada with its own autonomous powers on how to run its immigration programs. Quebec is the only French speaking province in Canada which means only individuals who are proficient in French are considered. Immigration applications are approved through selection or admission and applicants must meet the requirements for both processes. Requirements: You must hold a Quebec Selection Certificate from the Quebec Government and submit a complete permanent residence application. You must be proficient in French. Processing fees are from $1,040 and processing time takes 15-17 months. Apply for Quebec skilled worker program
  • Provincial Nominee Program: This program targets workers who have necessary skills, education and work experience needed to contribute to the economy of specific province, if you want to live in that province and reside permanently in Canada. Each province has its own programs targeting specific groups ranging from students, entrepreneurs, skilled workers, semi-skilled and investors. You can apply using the paper based process or online process through express entry depending on the Provincial Nominee Program stream you are applying to. Applying using paper process will take 15-19 months of processing time and from $1,040 and above as processing fee. Eligibility for Provincial Nominee programs differ according to provinces. Apply using paper-based process or online process.
  • Atlantic Immigration Pilot: This program is specifically designed for Atlantic Canada. Skilled workers or International graduate in Atlantic candidates can apply under this program. You can be hired through any of the 3 programs under this scheme: Atlantic High-skilled program, Atlantic Intermediate-skilled program and Atlantic International Graduate program.  Basic requirements will include: job offer from the Atlantic province, educational and skill experience in a management/ professional/ technical job for at least a year, ability to communicate in English or French, ability to support yourself and family in Canada and intent to reside in Canada. You will have to choose 1 out of the 3 Atlantic Immigration Pilot programs and apply for. To complete your application, you will need to have: provincial confirmation of endorsement letter, a completed offer of employment form, language test results, an educational credential assessment, proof of work experience, medical examination certificates, proof of funds needed for settlement and, police certificate.
