With the TRV, you are granted a temporary residence in Canada. Please note that holding this document doesn’t automatically guarantee entry into Canada.

Please also note that people from visa-exempt countries do not need this visa to enter Canada. They only need to apply for the electronic travel authorization which can be done online. This is also only needed if traveling by air. Traveling by land, the electronic travel authorization isn’t needed.

1. Canada Temporary Resident VISA For A Friend Or Family Member

If a friend or family member wants to obtain a temporary resident VISA, he/she needs to first apply from outside the country. Thereafter, a letter of invitation has to be provided by you to them. The letter should state how you intend to help them in having a good stay in Canada amongst other necessary detail.

Please note that the invitation letter does not guarantee that the person will receive the VISA. This is just a requirement and not a guarantee.

2. Documents Required For Canada Temporary Resident VISA Application

If you haven’t applied before and on the verge of doing so, please know that the documents needed for TRV are your passport, your return ticket, financial proof which can be your bank statement. Other needed documents will be communicated to you.

3. How Long Can You Stay In Canada Using Temporary Resident VISA

The duration of stay is usually inscribed on the VISA via a stamp date or handwritten date. If for some reason, there is no date written written on the visa, you are allowed a stay duration of 6 months.

4. Can I School In Canada With Temporary Resident VISA/Study Permit

Again, depending on the date written on the visa, you can or cannot use the temporary resident visa in studying. If your schooling duration is less than 6 months, you can study with the temporary resident visa. However, If your schooling duration is over 6 months, you’d have to apply for a study permit.

If you are a member of a foreign armed force under the visiting forces act, you can study with this VISA and your minor children can study at the elementary level. Of course, if you are on a work permit.

5. You Should Also Know This

If the intent of coming to Canada is business, you’d have to apply for the temporary visa. But if you are coming to Canada from a visa-exempt country, you do not need to apply for a temporary visa. You just need the electronic travel authorization if you plan traveling by air.
